THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENTS

We the People of the United States of America must dissolve the bonds of Party that bind and separate us to our own detriment.

The two Parties we created to give power to our voices now serve to silence our dissent. The Party system we established to serve our interests now acts, behind closed doors, as the master of us all.

The Parties in Power claim as their aim the improvement of our lot, and while such improvement is the likely aim of many Party members, the true aim of the Parties is the perpetuation of their own enrichment and existence without regard for ours.
The behind-the-scenes machinations of Party politics interfere impermissibly and pervasively with the effective consent of the governed: us.

Rather than securing to us our inalienable rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, the people elected by the Parties serve only to concentrate the wealth of our great nation into the hands of the few at the expense of the many, to secure jobs, contracts and salaries for their current and former members and their corporate donors.

The Parties have worked, sometimes together, sometimes in opposition, to ensure that benefit and taxation ebb and flow according to campaign contributions and political support. Thus, they give disproportionate voice to the wealthy and the well-financed interests at the expense of the middle class, and they ensure that the benefits and penalties assigned by our government are unrelated to justice, equality or dessert.

The Parties refuse to work together to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance to the People. Each Party treats as the greatest threat to the country the victory of its Opposition.

Each Party is more concerned with getting credit for popular measures that become law and with assigning blame to the Opposition for unpopular measures that become law than it is with passing those measures that are good, just or necessary for the well-being of the People.

Both Parties have erected legal, financial and electoral barriers to qualified citizens who wish to serve the public good by seeking elected office but who do not wish to put Party loyalty before public good. These barriers prevent citizens from exercising their Constitutional right to seek office.

We the People tried to redress our grievances and improve our lot by picking among the candidates chosen for us by the Parties, by donating what little excess we have to the Party-affiliated office-seekers who we believed would do what is best and by voicing our concerns to our elected representatives and to the press. But we have found our attempts to redress our grievances stymied by the Party system.

We agree to support candidates for office running under no Party banner who are willing and fit to serve.

We agree to support independent and third-party candidates whenever the content of their characters and their capacities are strong and their values and ideals are similar to our own.

We commit ourselves to a true vote for change.

We reject the arguments of the many, enthralled by the Parties, who say that a vote for an Independent candidate is a wasted vote.

We will vote for the best man or woman for the job. We will not be swayed by gimmicks or expensive ads.

We demand public servants who represent our interests instead of Party-loyal masters who promote theirs. Our servility to over-paid behind-the-scenes decision-makers, campaign managers and lobbyists ends today.

We are independents.
